Recently I happily reached a significant Cochlear Implant milestone.
There are many ways to get the most out of your hearing-aid investment. Here’s a critical one that applies to Cochlear Implants too:
Check and double-check your ears before entering water
Get into the habit of checking your ears anytime you step into a shower, bath or pool. The day will come when you are use to wearing your aids and you’ll forget they are on. I always stick my fingers in my ears before I hop into the shower or dive into the ocean to make sure I have my hearing aids off.
Well, guess what? I climbed into my bathtub with my cochlear implant on! While washing my face and neck I felt it on my head! OMG! Fortunately, it did not get wet. Thank GOD I didn’t dunk my head in the water to wash my hair!
Since learning that my left ear, with the CI, has a hearing loss of mild to moderate (whereas before it was profound) I’ve been wearing it as I wake up in the morning until I go to bed. Obviously, that has made a difference.
Speech is beginning to become more and clearer. I am making good progress with my cochlear implant.
I’m thrilled.
